Application of Copper Sulfate in agriculture and livestock

Vina TS2025-01-07T10:03:06+07:00

Green alum, also known as copper sulfate, is an inorganic chemical compound with the formula CuSO4.5H2O. It has a characteristic blue color usually in the form of crystal-shaped solid rock (the starting material for the production of other copper salts), easily soluble in water. Today world consumption is about 200,000 tons per year, of which an estimated three-quarters is used in agriculture.

Uses of copper sulfate:
In livestock:

Copper sulfate is used as an additive in animal feed to promote growth and correct copper deficiency in animals. It is used in mixed mineral supplement formulations for properly fed livestock and poultry. The fine crystals make sulfate ideal for combining with other nutrients, helping animals achieve a balanced diet. Cuprichem copper sulphate has extremely low dioxin content due to the plant’s advanced dioxin removal unit. The results were 10 times lower than the allowable limit and every production batch was thoroughly tested.

Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate Cuprichem is specifically designed to meet the stringent requirements of the feed industry. Cuprichem copper sulfate has excellent absorption properties. Mineral mixture supplement for proper feeding of livestock and poultry. Thanks to its chemical properties, including purity and copper content, as well as physical properties, the feed product Copper Sulfate Cuprichem is a favorite among farmers.

In aquaculture:

Eliminate blue-green algae, toxic algae, and bottom algae in aquaculture ponds.
Improve water quality, control water color, stabilize pH in ponds.
Destroys parasites such as wheel worms, melon worms, anchor worms, spores and trematodes parasitic on the skin, gills and fins of fish.
Extremely fast response to ulcers, head swelling, peeling, red period, red beak,…
Prevents the phenomenon of shrimp becoming covered in algae, slime, and parasites on the body and gills of shrimp.
If in the past its only use in industry was as an adhesive for dyeing and electroplating, today copper sulfate is widely used in industry. Metal industry uses it as an electrolyte in copper smelting, copper coating of steel wire before wire drawing and in various copper plating processes. The mining industry uses it as a concentration activator by frothing lead, zinc, cobalt and gold ores. The paint industry includes copper in anti-fouling paints and it plays a part in coloring glass.

Arguably the greatest agricultural benefit of copper sulfate is that it is used to control the growth of bacteria and fungi on fruits, vegetables and other crops. When combined with lime and water (known as Bordeaux mixture), copper sulfate acts as a fungicide, used to protect plants during seed treatments before they grow. In tropical climates, CuSO4 5H2O is used as a molluscicide and a snail bait to control plant and crop pests.
