How Silica gel anti-humidity grains work

Vina TS2024-12-17T13:56:13+07:00

The hygroscopic ability of Silica gel anti-humidity beads depends on the relative humidity of the environment, but it cannot absorb all the moisture in the air and always follows the rule of balance. Relative humidity of air: 20% can absorb up to about 12% humidity. Relative humidity of air: 50% can absorb up to about 23% humidity. Relative humidity of air: 90% can absorb up to about 31% humidity.

How Silica gel anti-humidity grains work

Silica gel anti-humidity granules have the chemical formula (SiO2.nH20, n<2), which is essentially silicon dioxide, in the form of hard and porous granules with countless tiny hollow cavities in the granules. Each cavity has an average pore size of 24 angstroms (1 angstrom = 1/10 billion meter), so it has an extremely large contact area (about 800m2/g).

Operational principles moisture-proof grain

Silica gel can absorb and retain moisture thanks to the capillary phenomenon in the hollow cavities, water vapor is absorbed and sticks to the pores inside the grain. Each grain can absorb up to 40% of its weight in water vapor.

Once it is fully hydrated, we can simply reuse it by heating it at about 180 degrees Celsius for about three hours (depending on temperature uniformity, contact surface, …) or put it in the microwave on Medium mode for about 10 minutes. If dried at low temperature or for a short time, it will quickly absorb water. Note that high drying temperatures or the impact of external forces can lead to broken particles and the number of silica gel reconstitutions is quite low. After several drying times, the silica gel must be replaced with a new one.

Nowadays, it is not difficult to find and buy Silica Gel beads, however quality is an issue that many businesses are concerned about. Vina TS, with many years of reputation in the market, is a leading supplier of industrial chemicals, desiccants, etc. We ensure to always provide businesses with products with high quality and the best prices.
