Prevent the bad habit of discharging grease and waste into the sewer
As Thanh Nien reported, on May 22, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction issued a document on strengthening inspection and supervision of wastewater treatment, in which special attention is paid to restaurants, food and drink establishments. The document was issued after the Technical Infrastructure Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City (under the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City) reported that during the dredging of the drainage system, the condition of oil and grease in the sewer was still recorded, affecting drainage.
The Department of Construction requested the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the People’s Committees of districts and Thu Duc City to strengthen inspection and supervision of wastewater treatment of production and business establishments before discharging waste into the drainage system. During the maintenance and dredging of the drainage system, if it is discovered that the restaurant owners have not installed the grease separation system before connecting to the drainage system, the maintenance unit and the local government will coordinate to handle it.
The streets are flooded because waste clogs the drains
Many readers said that every day, they still witness the scene of many shops discharging grease and waste directly into the sewer. “Seeing many shops, especially on the sidewalk, after processing, they step out to pour excess grease into the manhole cover. The grease after processing food has become thick and thick, poured down the drain, it still goes down, but it drifts away. I’m not sure if I go or not. But one thing is for sure if it keeps floating, with more garbage and plastic bags, the drain will be clogged,” said Uvland BDT.
